Janet Daby, Labour MP for Lewisham East, and other VIP guests attended the opening of the new T Level Engineering and Manufacturing hub at CTK Emmanuel on Friday 12th January.
CTK Emmanuel were delighted to secure the funding from the Department of Education, to open this fantastic, state-of-the art vocational facility, which is used to train and support Engineering T Level students who are studying to enter the engineering industry.
These outstanding new facilities, crafted in collaboration with employers and universities, are purposefully designed to meet the exacting needs of industry. The new area will provide extensive training for aspiring engineers and manufacturing professionals, ensuring they are well-prepared for the challenges of the future. The hub features a range of equipment, such as Sorting Stations and the Smart Factory as part of the fundamental change industry is undergoing (Industry 4.0). Students will acquire the skills to understand and perform tasks related to sensor and pneumatic technology, compliance with standards, project management, data analysis and troubleshooting & maintenance.
These latest facilities mark the completion of the fourth project enhancing the academic landscape at CTK Emmanuel. Previous initiatives have delivered a modern business space and a fully operational mock hospital ward named St Teresa’s, contributing to the comprehensive educational environment for students at the institution.
As a specialised vocational Catholic Sixth Form, CTK Emmanuel prioritises robust employment connections. Students engage in weekly work placements, and the Sixth Form has cultivated strong partnerships with prominent engineering companies. The personnel from these esteemed employers, as well as contributors involved in the design of the new facility, were pleased to participate in the grand opening. Their presence allowed them to witness first-hand the exceptional facilities now available at CTK Emmanuel. The hub was also blessed by Deacon Javier, Chaplaincy Coordinator at CTK.
CTK Emmanuel, located on Belmont Hill, close to Lewisham and Blackheath, is a successful Sixth Form serving 16-19 learners from in and around Southeast London. The Sixth Form offers the widest range of vocational courses locally in a Catholic Sixth Form environment and has recently added T Levels to the curriculum offering.

Janet Daby, who opened the facilities, said;
“It was brilliant to attend and speak at the Grand Opening of Christ the King’s new manufacturing and engineering facilities. It’s great to see Lewisham schools leading the way and giving young people the widest possible choice for their futures.
Linking up education with businesses and government is vital to ensure our young people have the skills they need for the workplace and our communities have the skills they need to grow the economy. Facilities like those at CTK are an important step in that direction and help to put Lewisham on the map!”

Christ the King Sixth Forms Executive Principal Shireen Razey said;
We were delighted to receive funding from the Department of Education to develop these outstanding facilities, which will benefit our leaners for many years to come. Our T Level in Manufacturing and Engineering will ensure we are meeting local employers and skills needs and training the next generation of engineering professionals. We are immensely proud of the outstanding vocational curriculum we can offer to students taught within our Catholic Sixth Form. A huge thank you to FESTO for helping with the implementation and training of the new state of the art engineering equipment. We are delighted that Janet Daby has been able to join us today.”
