A professional sixth form centre for excellence 9 Dominic - T Level Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering student Dominic completed work placements at Willmott Dixon, Mace, Festo, London Build, Turner & Townsend and Broadgate. He achieved Distinction (equivalent to AAA at A Level) and is doing a Degree Apprenticeship with Turner & Townsend LLP. My Industry Placement “I chose to study a T Level in Engineering Maintenance, Installation and Repair because I wanted a course that didn’t just teach theory, but gave me real-world experience. I’ve always been someone who learns best by doing, and this course gave me the chance to build practical skills, understand how different systems work, and learn how to solve real problems on-site. The focus on safety and regulations also taught me how important it is to work responsibly and professionally in this industry. During my industry placement, I worked with Willmott Dixon. From the moment I stepped onto site, I was involved in many things: project meetings, helping with safety checks, tracking progress against deadlines, and learning how sustainability plays a role in construction. I also got to shadow project and site managers, which gave me a real understanding of how much planning and teamwork Our T Levels include a 45-day work placement - see pages 20-23 for details goes into making a project successful. Being on a live site, seeing things come together, made it feel real and confirmed that this is the path I want to take. My Personal Achievements One of my first accomplishments during my industry placement with Willmott Dixon, was earning my CSCS card, which gave me access to the site and showed I understood the industry’s health and safety standards. I also completed two weeks of technical training with Festo, where I was proud to receive both the Top Achiever and Completion awards in Pneumatics, Electro Pneumatics, and PLC Programming. This placement didn’t just help me grow technically; it actually shaped me personally. My Organisational Impact I approached every day with the mindset that I could add value. I saw it as an opportunity not just to learn, but to contribute, being proactive, reliable, and engaged. My willingness to get involved with different teams across the site helped build strong relationships. I learned to communicate clearly, follow instructions carefully, and support colleagues with small but meaningful tasks. I believe my contributions positively supported the team’s daily operations, creating a positive site environment.”
